Como have joined Liverpool and Real Madrid in the record books after their emphatic 9-1 victory over Lens in the UEFA Champions League, matching the competition’s biggest winning margin of eight goals.

The Italian side achieved the feat in their Matchday Four encounter on November 4, 2026, becoming the third team to win a Champions League match by an eight-goal margin.
According to UEFA, Como’s victory also made them only the second club after Bayern Munich to score nine goals in a single Champions League match.
Tasos Douvikas led the impressive performance with a hat-trick, while six other Como players also found the net as the competition debutants recorded the biggest away victory in the tournament’s history.
The result places Como alongside Liverpool, who first set the eight-goal winning-margin record with an 8-0 demolition of Beşiktaş during the 2007/08 group stage.
Liverpool’s historic performance came after a difficult start to their European campaign, having collected just one point from their opening three matches. Yossi Benayoun scored a hat-trick, while Peter Crouch and Ryan Babel each contributed two goals. Captain Steven Gerrard completed the scoring.
Real Madrid later matched Liverpool’s achievement on December 8, 2015, when they defeated Malmö 8-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored four times in that encounter, while Karim Benzema added a hat-trick. Ronaldo’s performance also took his tally to 11 goals in that season’s group stage, setting a record at the time.
Bayern Munich hold another significant place in the competition’s scoring history. The German champions defeated GNK Dinamo 9-2 on September 17, 2024, setting the record for the most goals scored by one team in a single Champions League match. Harry Kane scored four goals, while Michael Olise added two.
Como’s latest achievement is particularly notable given their status as newcomers to the competition. Their 9-1 victory over Lens has placed the Italian club alongside some of Europe’s most established sides in the tournament’s record books.
