The Chairman of Etsako West local council area of Edo State, Alhaji Yakson Musa, has been sacked.
Vice Chairman of the council, Imonofi Osumah Inusa, has been sworn in as the substantive chairman on Wednesday.
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole hails from Etsako West and the sacked council chair is believed to be his loyalist.
The suspension of Yakson is seen by some Oshiomhole loyalists as Obaseki’s move to deepen his grip on Edo APC.
Alhaji Yakson was first suspended in August for a period of two months after he was allegedly found to have misappropriated a sum of N48m salary.
His sack followed recommendations from the committee set up to investigate the allegations against him.
Trouble started for him when Obaseki discovered that the salary wage bill was going up every month when new staff were not employed.
The ICT discovered that over 80 ghost workers were receiving N6m monthly salaries. Another N46m salary fraud was also uncovered.
Yakson had earlier said he should be commended for raising the alarm about the fraud. He said he wrote to the Governor to send ICT staff to carry out staff audit.
