An Abuja area court has ordered the Department of State Security (DSS) to investigate the certificate forgery allegations against the deputy governor of Bayelsa state, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

Ewhruhjakpo was alleged to have forged his National Youth Service Corps Certificate (NYSC).

Prior to his swearing-in as deputy governor, Ewhrudjakpo served as a senator representing Bayelsa West senatorial district on the platform of the PDP, Daily Trust reports.

The deputy governor while serving as a senator was facing a case of alleged forgery instituted by Benjamin Youdiowei, a chieftain of APC before the court in Lugbe, Abuja.

Youdiowei had alleged that Ewhrudjakpo presented a forged NYSC exemption certificate on his nomination form to INEC.

At the resumed hearing on Wednesday, February 19, Youdowei’s lawyer, Seidu Jibrin, informed the court that the Wuye police division, which was earlier asked by the court to carry out further investigation on the matter, had transferred the case to the inspector general of police monitoring unit.

The judge in response stated that police should have reported back to the court if the Wuye division was unable to handle the case before taking the unilateral decision of transferring the case to the IGP monitoring unit.

He then terminated his earlier order directing the police to investigate the case and ordered the DSS to take it up.
