Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the State of Osun has sent goodwill message to the Muslim community in the State and across the world on the celebration.
The Governor in a goodwill message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, urged Muslim faithful to look beyond the merriment and seize the day to intensify prayers for the world as it continues to battle with the Coronavirus pandemic.
He also expressed gratitude to the Muslim community and residents of the state for remaining steadfast despite the current challenging situation imposed by the ravaging pandemic.
“On behalf of my family and government of the State of Osun, I congratulate the Muslim Ummah in the State and beyond on the occasion of this year’s Eid al-Adha Festival.
“In this season of love, peace, togetherness and sacrifice, I urge my fellow Muslim faithful to imbibe the virtues of Prophet Ibrahim, who, in obedience to God’s directive, was ready to sacrifice his only son.
“Let us look beyond the merriment and seize the opportunity of this festivital to intensify prayers for our State, country, and the world at large to overcome the Coronavirus pandemic. We shohld also offer prayers for the peace, unity, and development of our State and Nigeria.
“Owing to the continued rise in cases of COVID-19 in our State, we have cancelled the congregational Eid al-Adha prayers across the State. This is to prevent further spread of the virus.
“I enjoin us to celebrate with caution and confine all activities to our homes as the extant restrictions on social gatherings still subsist. I thank you all for your understanding and cooperation at this critical moment of our lives.
“No doubt, the State will witness influx of people this period, let us therefore ensure that we continue to observe all the precautionary measures put in place to contain the spread of the virus in our dear State. Let us strictly observe the use of face mask and maintaining social distancing in public places,” he added.
Oyetola assured that his administration would “sustain all efforts to cater for the well being and development of the people of the State and ensure we flatten the curve of COVID-19. Eid Mubarak”.
