It was a joyous moment for students and teachers of all Senior Secondary Schools in Ede North Local Government as the lawmaker representing Ede North constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Akogun Nurudeen Kofoworola Babajide distributed new school uniforms to over 1,500 students.
The distribution was done at the premises of Agbale Grammar School, C.A.C Grammar School, Mapo Arogun Comprehensive High School, Ede Muslim Grammar School and Owode Adejuwon Grammar School all in Ede on Wednesday.
It would be recalled that Osun State Government under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Monday, November 16th 2020 commenced the implementation of education policy reversal done early in the year. Among the policies are the reversal to old uniforms, unique to each schools and the reversal to old names.
The Students became joyous and elated upon hearing the gesture of the lawmaker.
Babajide said, “I’m here to fulfil part of my campaign promises to the people of Ede North. I promised to always support the education sector and I’m here to fulfil that. We are going to give over 1,500 students in all five schools in Ede North.
“The gesture is borne out of my will to ensure that I lift parents, most especially the downtrodden in the society of burdens of buying school uniforms for their children. The reversal to old school uniforms will sure have impact on their economy and we are working towards easing that.
“As a lawmaker, welfare of our people is very important and we’re working towards that. People of Ede North should expect more programmes during my stay in the state parliament.
Principals of the schools who spoke with our Correspondent described the gesture as historic, stating that the uniform will go a long way in ensuring compliance with the government’s directive.
Beneficiaries of the programme expressed their happiness over the gesture of the lawmaker. They added that some of their parents have been struggling to get them the material.
