Criticisms have continued to trail the appointment of Yeside Oyinkansola Akande, wife of the Osun State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Olufemi Akande as Personal Assistant to her husband.

According to a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, Mrs Akande was appointed as PA to her husband on November 4th, 2019.

The letter reads, “I am pleased to inform you that the Governor of the State of Osun, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola has approved your appointment as Personal Assistant to the Attoney-General and Hon. Commissioner for Justice with effect from 24 October, 2019.

“While congratulating you on this well deserved appointment, the State Government counts much on you that this elevation would enhance your performance with a view to moving the State of Osun to greater heights.”

Investigation by this medium revealed that the appointment was terminated by Governor Gboyega Oyetola some months later.

Sources within the government who are aware of the appointment told InsightMedia that the appointment was real but when the Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola heard about it in 2020, he ordered for its termination.

On of the sources said, “as we speak today, no such appointment exist within the government. Governor Oyetola has ordered for its termination upon hearing of it.

“The Governor was furious upon hearing it. He immediately summoned the Commissioner and ordered for termination of the appointment. He said the action goes against the principles of his government. It has been terminated since last year.”

It’s a moral bankruptcy – Saka

Reacting to the development, the Convener of Dialogue 360, Comrade Waheed Saka described it as a moral bankruptcy, stating that the APC members in the state who worked for the emergence of Oyetola will not find the appointment funny.

Saka said, “It’s a moral issue and it’s so unfortunate that the Honourable Commissioner doesn’t find any other person worthy of being his Personal Assistant but his wife. I’m sure it’s because he’s not a grounded politician in Osun, that’s why he did that. I know those supporters of their party who worked tirelessly campaigning for Oyetola will not find this funny.

“The Commissioner should find a way of doing the needful while the government should ensure it wins back the trust of citizens.

“However, it should be stated that he has breached no known law but it is a matter of morality. No one will welcome such a development under this government.”

No sane adminstrator will do that – PDP

Speaking with InsightMedia on telephone, the Chairman of the opposition People’s Democratic Party in Osun State, Hon. Sunday Bisi said it’s a display of impunity that the government of Oyetola displays at all time.

Bisi said, “It’s a complete show of impunity which is the hallmark of this government. No sane administrator would do such. It’s a mindset of “what will happen” that they display all the time. Are we saying they are short of people with capacity to hold such office except his wife? Even in the APC. It’s highly embarrassing.

“What we as a party believe is that they don’t have interest of Osun people and the state at hearts. Osun is like a business environment to them. They only want to get their businesses done and run back to their bases.”

APC keeps mum

The All Progressives Congress on the state has kept mum on the matter. Spokesperson of the party, Mr Kunle Oyatomi told our Correspondent that he has no comment on the matter.

Olufemi Akande is a son of the Former Governor of the State and former interim National Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande.
