It’s no longer news that the Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola has sworn in a crop of elected local government functionaries who would oversee the grassroots governance for another constitutionally-backed three years.
The venue of the inauguration of the chairmen at the foyer at the Bola Ige House, Abere, Osun State, was filled to capacity as the event was intuitively turned into a carnival yesterday.
All the stakeholders in the Osun project who share the political ideal of the APC were in attendance and the elated newly-elected local government functionaries were seen exchanging pleasantries.
Expectedly, the handlers of the state chapter of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could not hide the feelings of their disapproval for the local government council elections that were peacefully held across the state and the subsequent swearing in of the democratically-elected local government council functionaries.
The Osun State appointed caretaker committee chairman of the PDP, Dr Adekunle Akindele, in his usual characteristics, almost brought down the roof with his ceaseless threats of dissolution of the elected council governments if and when Senator Ademola Adeleke assumes office as the state governor on November 27, 2022.
There is however, a noted paradigm shift in the line of thought of the PDP’s empty threats bothering on the dissolution of the council administration as a caveat seems to have been added by the confused PDP leadership in the state.
It must be that the newly-acquired legal tutorial perfunctorily received by the Osun PDP handlers that if it pleases their symbol to assume the political leadership of the state, he has a limitation as he is not expected to run ‘my fellow countrymen’ type of government by abruptly and unilaterally cutting short the life span of a statutory government institution.
Let the houserat inform the bushrat that the democratically-elected local government functionaries which cannot be dissolved by executive fiat even by the governor who inaugurated same have come to stay in Osun State without recourse to the state House of Assembly or the court of law.
It was observed that some critics were questioning why it was the only APC candidates that showed interest in the local government council elections.
The answer for this identified exclusivity of the APC candidature during the recent local government council elections could be traced to mere expression and exercise of freedom of choice of the political parties to either take part or boycott.
There is no way that the non-participation of the all other political parties in the grassroots election can void the exercise as there was no record of their denial to take part in the elections by the state umpire, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), under the chairmanship of Otunba Oladunjoyelo Olusegun Oladitan who is a legal practitioner with a cumulative experience of over four decades.
Some members of the opposition expectedly played politics with the local government council elections issues by condemning same in constructive manners while some criticisms were laced with indignities and frivolous insults.
One of such nauseating and irritating criticisms was the insult hurled at the state sitting Governor Oyetola by David Adeleke, that popular musician a.k.a. Davido, where he castigated Oyetola as ‘a wicked man’ for allowing the elections to hold and for effecting the inauguration of the democratically-elected grassroots governments as it was made to go viral online yesterday.
It should be pointed out that Davido whose uncle is the embattled Senator Ademola Adeleke is entitled to criticize anyone but such must be devoid of an abuse or messing over which only exposes him as pathologically incorrigible without any iota of hometraining.
For God’s sake, politics apart, my knowledge of Davido’s father portrays him as an embodiment of humility, meekness and modesty who could hardly hurt a fly.
Why must Davido continue in his constant manner of abusing Governor Oyetola who is older than his father all in the name of politics?
How will he (Davido) feel if Femi, the son of Governor Oyetola, should throw caution to the wind and rain abuses on the innocent and impeccable Dr Deji Adeleke just the way he has been doing to Femi’s father?
My words of advice for Davido is to cease from being a proverbial child who defecates on a footpath that results to copious curses of his innocent mother by the passers-by.
The abusive talented singer from the Adeleke Dynasty and those in the same line of thought with him among the PDP members should be in the know of the fact that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria gives Governor Oyetola 48 months to operate for his first tenure and that whatever he does one hour to the expiration of the 48 months is still valid.
In peace I come.
