A public affairs analyst and activist, Rev’d Richard Peters has cried out that member representing Uyo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Mr. Michael Enyong (aka Baba Ntan) has vowed to use his (Eyong) office and position as a National Assembly member to deal with him.
The Coordinator of Mass Support Team accused the Lawmaker of seeing him as one of his greatest obstacles to his second term ambition.
He explained that Mr. Enyong’s threats came in a phone call, as an aftermath of the last article he wrote, on how the youths of Ikot Okubo Offot in Uyo Local Government Area under the umbrella of Ikot Okubo Mandate group rejected him and his second term ambition, and vowed to embark on a protest, if Michael Enyong is imposed on them.
“The youths, during their meeting, had noted that Mr. Enyong’s first term at the Green Chambers has been unproductive and a far cry expectation. Therefore, his second term sojourn will become a total disaster.
“Moreso, it is obvious that the present Zoning formula of Uyo Federal Constituency does not in any way favour Mr. Enyong. Hence, the youths demanded for a more credible, capable and purpose driven representative from Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, who will bring his intellectual and political acumen to bare on issues bordering Uyo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.
“Speaking to me on phone, Michael Enyong declared that he will use the full weight of his office to deal with Rev Peters, describing him as a blackmailer.
He shouted on the phone using vernacular: “… You are a blackmailer, I will use the full weight of this office (referring to his position as the member representing Uyo Federal Constituency) on you, Reverend Peters o… Since you continue to blackmail me, I swear to the Almighty God, I will leave this business and face you.”
Mike Enyong continued in his threat: “If you don’t leave me alone, I swear to the Almighty God, I will order my boys to kill you.”
Peters also said that Mr Eyong is parading a fake certificate.
“Checks have revealed that Michael Enyong has never gone through the four walls of a tertiary institution, yet he claims to hold a Doctorate degree. Findings also reveal that when Michael Enyong presented his documents to the PDP during screening for his election, he only presented the West African School Certificate for the said office he was vied for; and the said WASSCE he presented was a panel-beated School Certificate.
“It is unconstitutional for a Lawmaker to arrest or threaten to kill his constituent. But Hon. Michael Enyong, who is among the sleeping lawmakers at the House of Representatives has just done that to one of his constituents, Rev Peters, he went further to say that he will use all his money to bring him down.
With such threat, one is tempted to conclude that Babantan, as he is popularly called, is acting under the influence of illiteracy.
Speaking with Rev Richard Peters he confirmed that the information is true and promised to draw the attention of the law enforcement agencies.
“I’ll draw the attention of the Police, DSS and other security operatives to the sinister plans of Mr. Michael Enyong towards me and other perceived opponents of his second term ambition. Should anything happen to me, Mr. Michael Enyong should be held responsible for it” the Rev Said.
