Elders of the five ruling houses that constitute the Olufon Royal House have dispelled the rumour making the rounds that the State government of Osun is planning to announce and install a new Olufon of Ifon-Orolu.
The Olufon Royal Houses, which comprise of Orisatoyinbo, Moronfolu, Oluyeyin, Olumoyero and Odunolu royal families dispelled the rumour via a statement obtained by InsightMedia on Friday.
This rumour is coming 48 hours after the announcement of new Akirun of Ikirun and nine other monarchs by Osun State government on Wednesday.
The statement signed by Prince Sunmonu Olatoye of Orisatoyinbo, Prince Sule Akinyooye of Moronfolu, Prince Olatoye Oyedokun of Oluyeyin, Prince Kareem Magbagbeola of Olumoyero and Olatoyee Wahab Oyegbile of Odunolu royal families, called on the residents and citizens of the town to remain calm.
The statement reads in part, “Our attention has been drawn to ongoing rumour circulated in the public about ongoing plans to announce and install new Olufon of Ifon-Orolu Kingdom that has been vacant since April, 2021; this followed recent decision of the Osun State Government to announce approval of Akinrun of Ikirun and 9 other monarchs. Therefore, it has become very necessary to douse the generated tension arising from the rumors on purported announcement of new Olufon of Ifon-Orolu.
We hereby wish to state as follows:
The matters relating to process of filling the vacant Olufon of Ifon-Osun stool is still pending before Osun State High Court and getting proper attention.
“There is no way the Osun State Government can continue the process without concluding the referred litigation.
“The administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, the Executive Governor of Osun State is well known as a law abiding with respect for traditional heritage. Thus, will not act contrary to the position of law.
“None our the royal family members is presently involved in the process of filling the vacant Olufon Royal stool. However the subsisting Court Order is still in force.
The rumors of purported underground plans to continue the process of filling the vacant Olufon stool is handiwork of enemies of the government and that of Olufon Royal Family at large.”
The families concluded that that “We are assuring the public that all the members of authentic Olufon Royal Family are still together as a single unit regardless of the ongoing litigation. We hope that the Judiciary will soon clear the grey areas on perceived ambiguity on the process and extant Olufon Chieftaincy Declaration. We are imploring the members of the public to shun whatever the mischief makers are spreading because it is futile efforts to cause unnecessary confusion.”
