The Osun State Health Insurance Agency has warned the healthcare providers under the Osun Health Insurance Scheme to be up and doing, stating that quality service delivery to enrollees remains its utmost priority.
Dr Adeniyi Oginni, the Executive Secretary of Osun Health Insurance Agency, made this known on Friday at the second day of the first quarter healthcare providers forum meeting held in Osogbo, the State capital.
The meeting according to Dr Oginni was aimed at getting the feedbacks from the health providers and to also collectively chart ways towards improving the scheme. He said the agency places utmost priority on the service received by OHIS subscribers and will do everything possible to improve on it at all times.
Dr Oginni said, “the conduct of the healthcare providers is a critical success factor for health insurance, if the healthcare providers don’t provide quality healthcare services to the enrollees, they will not be encouraged. They will not invite other people to join the scheme or they themselves will drop out of the scheme, or the scheme can collapse. So we are telling them (healthcare providers) to do everything possible to ensure they give quality service to our people.
“As an agency, we are paying them money. What we’re saying is that if they receive money, they should be doing the work they are being paid to do. That’s the essence of the meeting.”
The OSHIA boss said the agency is poised to ensure the determination of Governor Ademola Adeleke to expand healthcare delivery in the State is achieved.
Oginni added, “Our Governor Ademola Adeleke stated very clearly that he wants to expand health insurance in Osun state, and the moment he said that, we know that our agency is critical because we are the oversight and regulating agency. We must ensure that the intention of the Governor must be achieved and the only way it can be achieved is to put these healthcare providers on their toes.
“Yes, we had little challenges shortly after change of government but the moment Mr Governor addressed those issues, we hit the ground running. Our activities have been back to back because we don’t want a situation where enrollees confidence will be shortened. We want more people to come, Mr Governor has spoken we are on the drawing board we are working day and night to ensure we please our enrollees, encourage more enrollment and by that, we will fulfill the desire of Mr Governor.”
Speaking on how the partnership with OSHIA has helped their facility, the Consultant-in-Charge of State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo, Dr Tolulope Opakunle said his hospital has benefitted massively from the Scheme.
He said, “The partnership has really helped. I wonder what the hospital would have been like if there was no support of the OHIS, because this partnership has given back to employment of staff, medical staff and provision of first class equipment in the hospital.
“OHIS is helping us to manage the financial resources coming to the hospital, in terms of procurement of equipment.”
No fewer that 16 secondary healthcare providers were present at the Friday meeting. The interactive session provide the healthcare providers opportunity to ask questions and seek clarifications on grey areas.
