The Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has accused his predecessor, Bello Matawalle, of carting away 17 government vehicles and looting property, including television sets and cookers from the state government house.

Lawal had after his inauguration on Monday, disclosed that his predecessor left behind an empty treasury and a huge debt for the state.

Speaking during a phone-in programme on Vision FM in Gusau, the state capital, the governor said his predecessor claimed the looted vehicles were his personal belongings.
He, however, assured that his administration would do its best to correct the anomalies.

He said, “Former Governor Bello Matawalle had gone away with 17 vehicles from his office. The deputy governor also claimed that the official vehicles attached to his office were his personal belongings. In fact, not even office equipment was spared.

“The atrocities are beyond comprehension, I’ve never seen crass irresponsibility like this. But, with good planning, I’m assuring the citizens of the state that we will do our best to correct the anomalies,” Lawal said.
