Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has reportedly taken a significant step in finalizing the transfer of Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona by triggering the ‘private’ €50 million release clause in his contract.
This move came after PSG failed to activate La Liga’s €50 million exit clause for the French forward before the stipulated date of August 1. To proceed with the transfer, the Ligue 1 champions sent a formal letter to Barcelona, utilizing the “private” clause, enabling them to acquire the player for €50 million.
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, with the private clause activated, the deal could be concluded and announced as early as this week.
For Barcelona, this development represents a setback, as they had hoped to secure the full asking price of €100 million for Dembele.
Such a substantial sum would have provided a much-needed economic boost for the club, assisting them in their efforts to stabilize their financial situation.
Moreover, PSG sees Dembele as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who has been the subject of intense transfer rumours linking him with a move to Real Madrid. It has been reported that Mbappe has already agreed to personal terms with PSG and is poised to sign a lucrative five-year contract with the Parisian club.
The next steps in the process involve PSG collaborating with Barcelona to finalize all necessary documentation swiftly, enabling them to unveil Dembele as their newest addition to the squad. As the negotiations progress, both clubs are eager to complete the transfer and bring the talented French forward to the Parc des Princes.
