The federal government is reportedly set to announce a replacement for the retiring Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris.
The proposed new police boss has been identified as Abubakar Adamu Mohammed.
Premium Times reports that its finding is based on interaction with top police chiefs as well as presidency sources.
It quoted a senior officer as saying late Monday, January 14, that: “We have a new police IG. Ibrahim Idris has gone home to move his things from the official quarters and we are now waiting for a formal handing over.”
The report said presidency sources also confirmed the development in separate exchanges. Mohammed, born on November 9, 1961, is from Nasarawa state and an assistant inspector-general of police.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in 1986 and was once a director of peacekeeping operations.
A former police commissioner in Enugu, Mohammed was an AIG in charge Zone 5 and is currently a directing staff member at the National Institute of policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, near Jos, Plateau state.
The report said his appointment would cause the retirement of some police chiefs just like it happened during the appointment of Idris.
