The Osun State Police has apprehended a suspect, Akeem Arole over alleged involvement in a case of stealing and fraudulent activities.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Yemisi Opalola on Friday at the police headquarters, in Osogbo revealed that the suspect was arrested in Lagos State after commiting the crime in Osun.
Opalola stated that the case started when a complainant in July 2023 reported a series of unauthorized transactions amounting to four million, five hundred thousand naira (N4.5m) from his bank account.
“On receipt of the case, a team of operatives from Anti-Vice section swung into action and consequent upon digital led intelligence and investigation, the suspect Akeem Arole Adeniyi was followed up to Lagos State where he was apprehended.” The police spokesperson said.
While fielding questions from journalists, Arole confessed to the crime.
He said that he had used the stolen funds for various purchases, including a Plasma Television, a home theater sound system, standing fans, a Gotv decoder, as well as mobile phones. However, police are currently in the process of recovering these items.
Arole also admitted to sharing a portion of the stolen money amounting to N1.3m, with another individual identified as Amusat, whose surname remains unknown, and who is now reportedly at large.
The Police PRO announced that that charges will be charged to court upon the completion of the ongoing investigation.
