Chief (Barr.) Adegoke Ogunsola, Otun Jagun of Ilobu land and Spokesperson to Olobu of Ilobu and Olobu-in-Council has refuted claims made by the Osun State Police regarding the upcoming 50th coronation anniversary celebrations.
The misinformation, cited in a letter from Commissioner of Police Mohammed Abba Umar, suggested unauthorized elevations within the traditional hierarchy, sparking unnecessary tensions.
In The letter addressed to Governor Ademola Adeleke, dated Tuesday alleged that new traditional heads or “full beaded kings” might be installed during the celebrations scheduled for May 25, 2024.
However, the Olobu of Ilobu and the Ilobu community have firmly dismissed these claims as baseless and fabricated.
Chief (Barr.) Adegoke Ogunsola emphasised that “There are absolutely no plans to install new Baales or elevate any existing ones during the coronation anniversary. Such actions would require proper procedures under the Chiefs’ Law of Osun State, which have not been initiated.”
The Olobu of Ilobu has planned to honor distinguished Nigerians with chieftaincy titles during the event. Honorees include Governor Adeleke, Senator Olubiyi Ajagunla, and several other prominent figures from the region.
In response to the police’s security concerns, the Olobu and the event’s planning committee have assured that extensive security measures are in place to maintain peace and order. “The celebration of our Kabiesi’s fifty-year reign will proceed smoothly with the support of our security agencies and the community,” stated Oba Olaniyan.
