A PhD holder of Ecology and environmental science, Dr Nsikak Akpan is set to hold the world longest lecture marathon for 150 hours.

Akpan revealed this at a press conference held at Foreign Links College Moro, Ile-Ife on Friday.

He will be lecturing on “Relationship between Man’s environment and health, which is set to commence from September 21st to September 30th at Foreign Links College, Moro, Osun State.

According to Akpan, ” there is need for humans to understand the relationship between man and his environment. Also highlighting the consequences of environmental neglect on human health”.

“I am a public health expert,it is a way of impacting in public health. I’m an environmentalist, it’s a way of giving back for a way of environmental protection and for the protection of the public health. This is the only way I can reach the world to let them know what can affect their health. So beyond the record, it is a way of giving back to the world.

“80 to 90 percent of whatever disease or health condition any human being is passing through us linked to the environment. They’re called environmental diseases, but people don’t actually know, people spend much money in the hospital for treatment, when they’re the architect of their problem.

“So this topic will address what human beings have done to the environment and what environment has done to their health. I chose the law of thermodynamics; that energy can neither be created nor destroyed but transformed from one form to another ” and law of motion which says ; “to every action there’s equal and opposite reaction” a body will continue on a state of rest until an external force act on it. The environment is not safe naturally until man begins to destroy the environment and environment will still be give it back to man.

“I mentioned diseases like cholera and malaria, and so on all these are linked directly to the environment, so I want people to know that they can live healthy but they can also be sick if the environment is sick. There are consequences for deforestation, all these chemicals we put into farm plants will later be transferred into human body, that’s why I chose this topic to create awareness.

“I also want to use this medium to educate students, world about the importance of environmental conservation and its impact on human well-being “, he added.

Akpan aims to break the existing record held by Indian Professor Arvin Mishra, who delivered a 139-hour, 52- minute, and 42-second lecture in 2014.
