As the International Peace Day was marked across the globe, the World Institute for Peace, a Nigerian organization preaching peace across the world, held a one -day even to mark the Day.
The Programme , held in Osogbo, focused on the theme “Building Sustainable Peace in Osun State: Targets, Evidence, and Comprehensive Plan of Action.”
This event brought together various stakeholders to discuss critical issues related to peace and security in the region.
Professor Arthur kurt Eilers, the Ambassador at large for World Institute for Peace in Belgium, addressed the broader context of peace and security across Africa, highlighting the interconnectedness of regional stability and local peace initiatives.
Mr. John, the Assistant Commandant of NSCDC , emphasized the importance of nurturing a culture of peace, particularly among the youth, and discussed the various vices that can lead them astray. His insights underscored the need for proactive measures to engage and empower young people to foster a more peaceful society.
Mrs Adegoke the representative of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Osun state command, spoke about the alarming rise in drug abuse in the country. She highlighted the harmful effects of hard drugs and reported that “recent drug seizures, including cocaine, have occurred in Osun State. This information serves as a critical reminder of the challenges facing the community and the importance of collaborative efforts to combat drug abuse and promote peace.”
The Oodua People’s Congress coordinator Mr Aboderin spoke about the high level of corruption and increase of insecurity in the country. He said “if there should be peace,there should be justice.”
