The Asiwaju of Ilobuland, Chief Azeez Kolade has condemned the fake announcement of Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoheed Lagbaja’s death on social media as uncalled for, unethical and barbaric.

Kolade urged everyone especially people of Ilobu in Irepodun local government to remain calm amidst the rumours surrounding one of the illustrious sons of the town who is currently the Chief of Army Staff, while calling for prayer and steadfastness.

A statement issued by Asiwaju Kolade and made available to newsmen on Monday described the death rumours of the General Lagbaja by some bloggers without verification in the antics of building traffic of their account as an unfortunate and uncalled for, saying that the action ran contrary to the scriptures of both Islam and Christian as well as the ethics of journalism profession.

The rumors were fueled by a social media post from Jackson Ude, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, who alleged that Lagbaja had died of cancer in an undisclosed foreign hospital.

Asiwaju said, “Although it’s indisputable fact that death is an inevitable part of life as stated in both Muslim and Christian holy books Quran 3:185: “Every soul shall taste of death…” Bible Hebrews 9:27: “it is appointed unto men once to die…”

“However, wishing death upon someone or rejoicing in their suffering is harmful and unjust. It goes against principles of empathy, compassion, and humanity while It’s pertinent for everyone to note that every person has inherent value and deserves dignity, regardless of differences.”

He calls for social media regulations in curbing such an obnoxious act which, according to him, is dangerous for the media profession and for the nations as a whole.

The Asiwaju of Ilobuland charged all the people of the town to continue praying for one of their illustrious sons for speedy recovery and successful tenure of office.
