President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to adopt better energy management practices by turning off their lights when not in use. He emphasized that such actions could help reduce electricity bills.

During a recent media chat with journalists in Lagos State, Tinubu remarked, “Learning to manage is not a negative idea. By controlling your electricity consumption and switching off the lights, we can all contribute to better management.”

The president dismissed the notion of price control, stating his commitment to enhancing market supply instead. “I don’t believe in price control; our focus will be on improving supply to the market,” he declared.

Since taking office, Tinubu’s administration has implemented an increase in electricity tariffs and removed fuel subsidies. On April 3, 2024, the electricity regulator raised rates for customers classified under Band A, setting new prices at N225 per kilowatt-hour, up from N66.

This decision faced significant backlash, as it further exacerbated the financial struggles of many Nigerians.
