The National Emergency Management Agency said three bodies were found at the site of the tanker explosion on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in Ikeja, Lagos state, on Thursday night. Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, Acting Regional Coordinator for NEMA’s Southwest Regional Office, confirmed this development to the Nigerian News Agency on Friday.

NAN reported that a liquefied petroleum gas tanker exploded while traveling at 10:32 pm. Thursday night. Farinloye said that the resulting fire affected the Ogun State Real Estate Investment Corporation Plaza next to the Sheraton Hotel, which houses different commercial facilities, including a Chinese restaurant.

He said, “We have so far recovered three bodies from the incident. The bodies were recovered from the generator house of OPIC Plaza and the restaurant.”

He had earlier told NAN that the fire was put out at about 12.30 a.m.

“The initial search and rescue activities revealed that 13 persons sustained various degrees of burns. Out of this, nine are males while four are females,” Farinloye said. Pop

He said the victim received first aid at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. He said four of them were seriously injured and then transferred to the Trauma and Burn Center at Baghdad General Hospital in Lagos.

“Comprehensive post-disaster assessment on the extent of general damages would be done later today,” Farinloye had said.

NAN had earlier reported that no fewer than 13 persons sustained various degrees of injuries while 25 cars were destroyed in the incident.
