Work ongoing on Ikirun-Obaagun road

The administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola has commenced massive rehabilitation of roads across the State.

The roads were parts of the 25 roads embarked upon by the State Government, which will be done in batches. The aim is to develop road network in the grassroots and to aid inter-city movement.

Taking journalists round the ongoing projects in Iwo, Ikirun, Otan-Ayegbaju and other areas on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Transport, Engr Hussein Olatoke Olaniyan said Governor Adegboyega Oyetola graciously approved massive rehabilitation to aide movement, adding that the projects will be delivered before the start of the next raining season.

“We are rehabilitating 200km of roads across the three senatorial districts and the cost is running to over N1 billion. These roads are going to be done in batches but it will be delivered before the rainy season this year,” said Olaniyan.

Speaking on some that are federal roads, the Governor’s aide said the State have attempted to get approval but the processes involved are too enormous, adding that “Governor Oyetola is only concerned about the welfare of Osun people because he believes they are at the receiving end of the brunt.”

Also speaking in Iwo during the inspection of Aawe Oyo junction to Gbongan road, the General Manager of Osun Road Maintenance Agency, Engr Olusola Ajao said the State Government had given the agency express approval to commence massive spot patching and rehabilitation of the roads. He said works have commenced on the the Iwo axis of the 23km and all necessary works will be done to put it in good shape.

“Our aim is to repair damaged drainages, culverts, bridges and others. This road (Aawe Oyo junction-Gbongan road) has massive potential of developing this area. Many people’s livelihood depend on it and we’re poised to ensure it’s delivered as soon as possible.”

During a tour to Ikirun-Obaagun-Iree-Ila road, work was ongoing at the Obaagun axis of the road as men of ORMA were laying asphalt on the axis of the road.

A resident of the area, Mrs Alaba Olatiboye, who is also a trader, gave account of how the poor road has been affecting her and other people’s businesses, stating that respite has “indeed come to us with this rehabilitation of this road. I want to thank Governor Gboyega Oyetola for fixing this road. We believe it will bring more prosperity to us.”

The Iyalode of Iree, Mrs Sherifat Adebayo who spoke with InsightMedia also lauded the Governor for the road rehabilitation.

A transporter in Iwo, Mr Mumini Ayanfe thanked the government for the succor brought to them.
