The National Association of Nigerian Students has to the management of Obafemi Awolowo University to release the five student leaders arrested by the management or be ready to see a mother of mass action that shut down the institution.

In a message sent across the social media by the Coordinator of Zone D of the association, Comrade Adekitan Lukman Adebisi, the association warned that it may resort to shutting down the school with a massive protest of the five student leaders are not released.

It reads in part, “You all will recall that the leadership of NANS Zone D met with relevant authorities and concern stakeholders aftermath of the arrest and incarceration of the OAU five.

“As pragmatic and grounded union leaders, we decided against immediately storming the streets or shutting down OAU to give room for consultations and negotiations which culminated in our various appeals to the management of OAU and concerned parties to see to the release of our comrades, but all our efforts came to nulity. We have since issued an ultimatum which expires this midnight Tuesday March 27th 2018.

“The NANS Zone D leadership therefore uses this medium to appeal once again to the OAU management as well as concerned stakeholders to see to the release of our detained comrades immediately failure of which we shall moved the NANS Zone D Secretariat to OAU.”

The statement also called on all the students in and outside the zone, Human Rights activists, and ideological movements to be ready for a mass action against the school management on Wednesday 28th of March, 2018 if the students are not released before the end of today (Tuesday, 27th).
