Ogun to host 4th African Drum Festival in 10,000 capacity auditorium

The fourth edition of the African Drum Festival, an initiative of the out-going government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, will hold from 25-27th April, at a newly constructed 10,000 amphitheatre in Abeokuta, the state capital.

This was disclosed by the Chairman,African Drum Festival Local Organising Committee, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, in her welcome address at a world press conference, held on Tuesday, at the MITROS Residence, Abeokuta.

Onanuga who is the deputy governor of the State, submitted that the festival started in 2016, had placed the state on the world map, considering its wide acceptability globally.

Just as her submission was corroborated by the Amosun who addressed newsmen that this year’s edition, the last in the history of his two-term of eight years administration had been expanded to accommodate more features which brings more value to the festival.

Amosun revealed that the festival has come to stay as far as the state is concerned based on the number of countries from the African continent and beyond that would be participating in the festival.

The outgoing governor said 26 states of the federation have gave their nod to be part of the historic event, 27 troupes from different African countries and more than 77 independent participants.

He said, ” The idea of this festival was conceived to revive the art of drumming which is part the African culture. If we get our culture right, it will drive tourism. I want to tell you that there was overriding demand that the festival be taking beyond the shores of Nigeria after the maiden edition.

“We are witnessing the launch of Adire logo: Adire Fashion Parade and unveiling of the Ransome-Kuti Legacy Museum this year. Also, our Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, will be leading other literary and entertainment giants in a train ride from Iju in Lagos to Abeokuta. “
