Concerns have risen over the inability of Nyesom Wike, The Minister of FCT to address the escalating issues of kidnapping, killings and violence has reached an unprecedented level, leaving Nigerians in Abuja living in fear.
In the statement signed by Ismaila Abdullahi on Friday, these issues have led to The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) FCT Wing’s decision to call for an indefinite strike, this has reflected the deep-seated dissatisfaction among primary school teachers.
The statement reads: “Wike’s failure to resolve this strike could further jeopardize the future of these students, who not only face educational disruptions but also the looming danger of abduction.
“Instead of tackling these pressing issues, Wike seems preoccupied with a role that extends beyond his jurisdiction. Acting as a Co-Governor to the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has diverted his attention from the pressing matters at hand in the FCT. The conflicting schedules of dinners and meetings conveyed by the FCT minister in Rivers State is not only unacceptable but unsustainable for effective governance in Rivers State.
“An FCT minister spending a considerable amount of time in Rivers is a disservice to the people who entrusted him with their well-being. The question arises: does Wike want to be an FCT minister or a local politician playing opposition games in his state? The clash between his role in the FCT and his political pursuits in Rivers demands a resolution.
“If Wike’s allegiance appears to conflict with the current regime led by President Bola Tinubu, careful management and eventual disposal may be inevitable for the stability and progress of the FCT.
“The time has come for a decisive choice. Will Wike commit to serving as the FCT minister, diligently addressing the issues at hand, or will he gracefully resign to pursue the politics that seem to captivate his attention in Rivers State? The people of the FCT deserve a leader who prioritizes their safety and well-being over the pursuit “, the statement concluded.
