The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Osun State chapter, has fingered the Commissioner for Youth, Moshood Olagunju as the brain behind crisis rocking the organization in the State.

The NYCN, while responding to the claim by Olagunju, accused the Commissioner of using “divide and rule” tactics to cause disaffection within the rank of the Council, because of “selfish interest”.

Olagunju had in a statement on Monday said he knew nothing about the crisis in Osun NYCN that has led to two parallel leadership. He said the crisis predated his appointment and has done everything possible to resolve it.

However, Olayemi Hassan, the Public Relations Officer of the Council, in a response on Tuesday countered Olagunju, describing his as the mastermind of the crisis.

Hassan said the election of Adetunji Ajala-led leadership of the Council “was approved by Governor Ademola Adeleke and was supervised by the Ministry of Youths and Security agencies in the State prior to the appointment of Olagunju.

The statement read, *Since his inauguration of Honourable Commissioner of Youth Affairs in Osun State on 19th July, 2023, Hon Moshood has been doing divide and rule and using individuals with selfish interest to cause division in the National youth council of Nigeria, Osun State but all his efforts end in futility.

The Commissioner of Youth Affairs would neither listen to advice nor follow the laid down rules that are guiding the youth constituency. How would a Commissioner of Youth come to the office in less than 4 months saying he suspended a democratically elected executives of an organization? This pronouncement from him is against the position of the constitution and shows how versed our Commissioner is in youth matters.

“How would a commissioner of youth say what the governor has put in place before his appointment should be changed because of one letter from someone in Abuja which you know can cause disunity of youth? Does the Commissioner of youth understand the workings of the ministry he’s heading? Or does he intentionally go contrary to the wish of the Governor. How would a commissioner of youth order the career staff of a ministry to be transferred because the briefing such gave does not align with him?

“To salt to the injury, some persons’ reputation have been defamed and tagged opposition so far their contribution doesn’t align with selfish agenda of the Commissioner.”

NYCN commended the Governor for transforming the State, stating that it recognizes the performance of the Governor.

“We know how tasking governance could be in all honesty, Governor Ademola Adeleke is changing the narrative but in youth constituency the reverse is the case due to the input of the commissioner of youth.

“We don’t have any problem in the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Osun State but the Commissioner is trying to create one, we appeal to relevant stakeholders in youth constituency and the people’s Governor to help address this and not make the mistakes of the past”.
