The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola  Adeleke, has called for investments into the local economy through massive adoption and production of Adire.

Adeleke made the call on Monday as he officially launched the new Osun Adire Logo and declared that the Osun Adire Festival will now be celebrated annually.

The launching had in attendance key dignitaries in attendance from both the state and across the nation.

In his address, Governor Adeleke emphasized Osun’s historic and cultural leadership in the creation of Adire, a traditional Yoruba textile art.

He stated, “Osun is the originator of Adire, and other states are simply following in our footsteps. It is Osogbo and Ede that are the true homes of Adire, and now, other states are coming to Osogbo and Ede to learn the craft. We will take our rightful place back as the cultural capital for Adire.”

Governor Adeleke also urged the people of Osun to embrace the cultural heritage of Adire by wearing Adire fabrics, especially every Wednesday, as he had previously declared upon taking office. “Adire is not just a fabric, it is our identity. It is time for Osun people to celebrate and promote this unique aspect of our culture,” the Governor affirmed.

In a special lecture, Professor Makinde reiterated the significance of Osun’s role in the Adire tradition. He highlighted that other towns across the country have adopted Adire practices, drawing from Osun’s rich history in textile production.

“It is essential for us as a people to continue celebrating and promoting the cultural art of Adire. Osun State is the birthplace of Adire, and it is time we reclaim that heritage with pride,” Professor Makinde stated.

Chief Jimoh Buraimoh, an influential figure in the local Adire community, also expressed his gratitude to the Osun State government for fully embracing the Adire Festival. He noted that this festival provides a vital opportunity for the youth and talented individuals in Osun to showcase their creativity and craftsmanship in Adire production.

Additionally, the Governor launched a new online platform, bit.ly/osuncreate, which will serve as a hub for all Adire creatives. Interested individuals can log in, register, and participate in the development and promotion of Adire artistry.

The event was a celebration of Osun’s heritage, creativity, and the ongoing cultural renaissance that the state is fostering through initiatives like the Osun Adire Festival.

The commitment to make this festival an annual event reflects the state’s dedication to preserving and promoting its cultural traditions for generations to come.
