Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday, rejected claims that he did not support President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, asserting that he has moved beyond such accusations.
Tinubu, who was supported by the All Progressives Congress (APC), triumphed over main opposition candidates Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
El-Rufai, a prominent APC figure, has been the subject of political discussions, recently stating that his views on governance would remain unchanged regardless of his role in the Tinubu administration.
On Sunday, an X user named Yusuf Tukur, tweeting as #realYusufTukur, alleged that Tinubu and his allies had actively sought El-Rufai’s support before the election but later accused him of not backing the president.
“When they were desperately seeking El-Rufai’s support, #officialABAT and his allies were everywhere praising Malam. However, in their typical fashion of ingratitude, they’ve now turned around to claim Malam didn’t support PBAT. But these testimonies tell a different story,” the tweet said.
In response, El-Rufai addressed the issue via his X handle, emphasizing that he had no personal expectations from his political actions, and described the situation as a natural part of life. “We did what we did for God, country, and party, expecting nothing in return. What is unfolding is just another life experience and part of human nature. We’ve moved on, but their conscience won’t let them sleep peacefully. Thanks anyway,” he wrote.
El-Rufai also reiterated his position on governance, stating that he does not believe in political pretense, comparing some politicians to actors. “Honestly, I don’t know how to pretend. Being a Nollywood actor in governance is for others, not for people like me,” he added.
