The Anambra State Police Command has arrested six individuals in connection with various offenses during separate “stop and search” operations across the state.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, several weapons and other incriminating items were seized from the suspects during these operations.

Ikenga explained that police officers stationed at the Anaku Divisional Headquarters, while conducting a “stop and search” at the Anaku/Omor Junction, intercepted eight suspects on a motorcycle. Although the suspects attempted to flee, police pursued them and successfully apprehended three individuals. A bag containing concealed firearms was also recovered.

The statement noted, “Under the strategic operational guidance of Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam, the State Police Command arrested six suspects on February 2, 2025, following separate stop-and-search operations in the state. Recovered items include a locally made double-barrel gun, a locally made revolver pistol, 7.62mm live ammunition, a metal axe, a Q-Link motorcycle (Reg No. JRV 760 QH), a gallon of a substance suspected to be a hard drug, a local pot, and various red and white clothes with NBM and ‘Number 7’ markings. Also seized were three Android phones and four ATM cards.”

Ikenga further stated that the suspects arrested in the Anaku/Omor Junction incident have been identified as Okafor Chibike, Ekene Lucky Nwadigbu, and Godwin Osaz, all male residents of Omor. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects are members of the Aye Confraternity and were on their way to an initiation ceremony. One of their motorcycles was also recovered and taken to the police station. The police are continuing their search for the remaining members of the group.

In a related incident on February 1, 2025, at Eke Awgbu Junction, police operatives from the Awgbu Divisional Headquarters intercepted three more suspects—Chidera Nwochia (20, from Amiri Orlu, Imo State), Chizurumu Elvis (23, from Mbano, Imo State), and Kosisochukwu Obiechina (21, from Agukwu Nri, Anambra State)—who were riding in a tricycle. During a search, police discovered one 7.62mm live round, a black axe, a gallon of suspected hard drugs, a local pot, red and white clothes, and a candle.

The suspects admitted to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity and were en route to an initiation ceremony. The tricycle used by the suspects was also recovered.

All six individuals are currently in police custody and will be charged in court upon the completion of investigations.
