The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has invited Mr. Adebayo Adeleke, the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Osun State, for questioning over alleged fraud. This development came to light on Monday.
A media aide to Adeleke, Mr. Kazeem Mohammed, confirmed that the invitation letter had been received by his principal and stated that Adeleke would respond to the invitation in due course.
Mohammed also clarified that the former commissioner was not arrested, as some social media reports had suggested. He further explained that Adeleke had been handed the letter while leaving a radio station in Osogbo, the state capital, in the evening.
The Osun State Government had previously filed a petition with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), requesting an investigation into the renovation of Primary Healthcare Centres under the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
The petition highlighted several prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Adeleke, whose companies were reportedly awarded contracts for the renovation.
In his defense, Adeleke denied the allegations, claiming that he had resigned from the company involved before the contract was awarded.
He also suggested that the current administration, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, was targeting him due to his role in exposing wrongdoing within the government.
Commenting on the ICPC’s invitation, Mohammed stated, “He received the letter and assured that he would honor the invitation at a later date.
The officials who brought the letter were polite, and there was no arrest. Prince Adeleke even discussed the invitation during a radio program earlier today. So, there is no cause for concern.”
