The Lagos State House of Assembly members have commended the leadership and legislative performance of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, praising her diligence and impact within her short time in office.
Recalls that Meranda assumed office as speaker on January 13, 2025, following the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who is reportedly poised for reinstatement.
Despite her brief tenure, lawmakers lauded her ability to lead effectively and foster a positive atmosphere in the Assembly.
During the plenary session, which began at about 2:20 p.m., Aro Moshood (Oshodi-Isolo I) initiated the praise session, describing Meranda’s leadership as “positively life-transforming.”
He noted that her approach to governance had been exemplary, despite the challenges that came with the transition.
Supporting the commendations, Kehinde Joseph (Alimosho II) emphasised Meranda’s resilience and humility, stating, “You have made history with your resilience and humility. Your time may be short, but you have written your name in gold.”
Other lawmakers echoed similar sentiments, highlighting her dedication to legislative excellence and consensus-building.
They also acknowledged her efforts in maintaining order and stability within the House during a period of political uncertainty.
Although speculation continues over the possible return of Obasa as Speaker, Meranda’s leadership has left a strong impression on her colleagues, who praised her for upholding the integrity of the House.
David Setonji, representing Badagry II, said, “Her tenure, though brief, has been marked by efficiency, collaboration, and a commitment to legislative duties, earning her the respect of her fellow lawmakers.”
