Ruben Amorim has warned his Manchester United squad that summer departures from the club are possible and inevitable.

The club likely need to sell some players to buy this summer in order not to breach profit and sustainability rules, this clearly means that the future of several players at Old Trafford are at risk. Amorim wants to work with a fresh squad next summer and is prepared to sanction several sales.

United are on track for their worst ever Premier League campaign, requiring 26 points from their last 11 games to beat their current lowest tally of 58. Amorim has won five, drawn three and lost eight of his league matches in charge, with his team sitting 14th in the table.

Amorim said: “We have a lot of games to play. But that [summer departures] is clear, and I think that is not a difficult situation because everybody understands that in football sometimes you stay, sometimes you have to move on. When you are honest with someone, they can take it. In the beginning, it is hard, but they will understand. So I’m quite honest with my players and they already know that sometimes they have to move on at the end of the season.”

Amorim is likely to be given the chance to remodel his squad this summer, despite a poor start to his reign. His side take on Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday afternoon
