The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed claims that a vehicle from First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s convoy was involved in the death of a young girl in Akure.

Senator Tinubu was in the state to launch the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme and distribute 10,000 professional kits to midwives across the South-West.

In a statement on Thursday, DSP Olushola Ayanlade labeled the reports originally published by Sahara Reporters as “false and misleading.”

“Eyewitnesses and preliminary investigations confirm that the girl’s death resulted from a hit-and-run by an unregistered white Lexus, not by any vehicle in the First Lady’s convoy,” Ayanlade stated.

A witness reportedly pursued the fleeing vehicle on a motorcycle following the crash, which took place in the Oba-Ile area of Akure. The victim’s parents and others present at the scene corroborated this account.

Initial media reports had incorrectly stated the child was nine years old, but she was actually seven.

The Commissioner of Police has visited the grieving family, assuring them of a comprehensive investigation.

“At no point was the First Lady’s convoy involved in this tragic incident,” the police spokesperson reiterated.
