The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement came after a closed-door meeting held at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday. The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, confirmed the move in a phone call with Vanguard.

According to Ahon, the decision to switch parties was reached after wide-ranging consultations with key political stakeholders and is aimed at ensuring the sustained development and progress of Delta State.

Governor Oborevwori, who emerged victorious in the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP, was welcomed into the APC by top party leaders. Political observers are describing the defection as a calculated realignment that could significantly influence the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
