…Don’t destroy Govt institution because of your insatiable greed – PDP replies

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned what it described as a deliberate misrepresentation by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding a recent correspondence from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) concerning the reinstated local government council chairmen in the state.

APC accused the state government of trying to manipulate public opinion with misinformation, citing attempts to pressure CBN officials with financial inducements. It commended the CBN for maintaining professionalism and not yielding to “filthy personal and pecuniary gains.”

In-line to the previous interventions, the APC noted that both the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had advised Governor Ademola Adeleke against conducting fresh local government elections, citing the Court of Appeal ruling and security concerns.

Hence, the party alleged that the governor went ahead with what it called “kangaroo elections” under the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), influenced by political motives rather than legal advice. APC labeled this move as a deliberate disregard for the rule of law.

The statement reiterated that the reinstated chairmen, under the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), led by Hon. Abiodun Idowu, are committed to fulfilling all requirements requested by the CBN. It emphasized that the process remains on track and is not indicative of rejection, contrary to the PDP’s narrative.

In reaction to the APC’s statement, PDP accused the APC of attempting to mislead the CBN with false judicial claims, warning that such conduct was dangerous to the nation’s democratic structure. It questioned why the opposition approached the apex bank without presenting a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment it claimed supported its actions.

According Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji, Media Director of the Osun PDP, who emphasized that the party remains committed to defending democracy and upholding the will of the Osun people.

The PDP in Osun lashed out at the opposition APC, describing bribery allegations involving the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as baseless and reckless.

“Approaching the CBN with distorted judicial particulars was a crafty move to fraudulently mislead the apex bank,” the PDP said. “If not for the vigilance of the legal department of the CBN, the country could have been thrown into another avoidable constitutional crisis.”

The party further condemned what it called the APC’s “insatiable greed,” accusing it of attempting to destroy government institutions for selfish political gain. It urged the APC-led federal government to call its members in Osun to order before their actions cause greater instability.

However, the PDP reaffirmed the legitimacy of the February 22, 2025, local government elections in Osun State, asserting that the only valid local government officials are those sworn in by Governor Ademola Adeleke. It described rival claimants as “political jesters” with no legal or moral claim to office.

The party warned that no amount of falsehood or manipulation could change the fact that the people of Osun freely chose the PDP to lead the state. It called on all federal institutions to remain vigilant and resist being used as instruments of disruption.
