Afrobeats star Davido has joined growing public calls for the release of social media personality VeryDarkMan, who was reportedly arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday.
VeryDarkMan, known for his bold and controversial online commentary, was detained over an undisclosed allegation.
Just prior to his arrest, he had posted about visiting a GTBank branch in Abuja to file a complaint over alleged unauthorized deductions from his mother’s account. It remains unclear whether the arrest took place at the bank or elsewhere.
News of his detention sparked widespread reactions online, with fans, influencers, and celebrities demanding his release.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Davido praised the public’s unity and voiced his support.
“Outside all the noise, it’s good to see that the good one does actually impacts lives and people actually appreciate! The support I’m seeing for VDM everywhere is encouraging, makes one want to do more for the masses. FREE MY GUY.”
As the #FreeVeryDarkMan movement gains traction, many are awaiting an official statement from the EFCC.
