Bayer 04 Leverkusen have officially named Erik ten Hag as their new head coach, with the Dutchman signing a contract that runs until June 2027.

“Let’s get started. Erik ten Hag signs with Bayer 04 as our new head coach until 2027,” the Bundesliga club announced in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

The 55-year-old takes over from Xabi Alonso, who guided Leverkusen to domestic success before stepping down. Ten Hag was widely regarded as the leading candidate to succeed Alonso, and the club has confirmed a two-year deal through the 2026/27 season.

Following his appointment, ten Hag shared his enthusiasm about joining the club: “Bayer Leverkusen is one of the top clubs in Germany and belongs among the elite in European football. The club offers outstanding conditions, and my discussions with the management team left a strong impression on me,” he said.
