The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has acknowledged responsibility for the widespread technical failures and irregularities that marred the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
At a press conference held on Wednesday, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, became visibly emotional as he addressed the situation. Fighting back tears, he expressed regret over the issues that affected the integrity of the examination process and the performance of many candidates.
Prof. Oloyede announced that a total of 379,997 candidates will be required to retake the UTME due to the problems encountered. The decision follows numerous complaints from candidates about technical glitches, abnormally low scores, and other irregularities.
He further disclosed that the rescheduled examinations will take place in 65 centres in Lagos and 92 centres across the Owerri Zone, which includes the five states in the South East. The registrar also stated that he assumes full responsibility for the lapses attributed to the negligence of some JAMB staff.
