The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, both located in Adeta, Ilorin, due to ongoing incidents of student unrest.
This directive was announced in a statement released on Wednesday by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye.
According to the statement, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, said the closure was necessary to restore order and safeguard lives and property following repeated cases of violence, disruption of academic activities, and vandalism within the two schools.
Only students currently sitting for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE) and their teachers will be allowed access to the school premises during the exam period, the commissioner clarified.
“Students involved in the SSSCE must always carry their identification cards when coming to school,” the statement added. Dr. Olohungbebe also urged parents and guardians to keep their children and wards at home to prevent further incidents.
The government emphasized that security personnel would be on alert to enforce the directive and arrest any student found violating the order.
The Kwara State Government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring a safe learning environment across all public schools in the state.
