The legal team representing Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who serves Kogi Central Senatorial District, has denounced the recent criminal charges filed against her by the Federal Government, calling it a blatant case of selective justice.

In a statement issued Wednesday in Abuja and signed by her counsel, Uju Nwoduwu, the team disclosed that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had submitted 12 separate petitions between March and May 2025.

These petitions allege serious offenses including cyberstalking, defamation, threats to life, and an assassination attempt yet, according to the legal team, they have received no response from the Nigeria Police Force or other relevant security agencies.

“The public expects law enforcement and prosecutors to act with fairness, uphold the rule of law, and ensure impartial justice,” the statement emphasized.

The team expressed concern over what they described as an alarming double standard: while Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s petitions have been ignored, counter-allegations from prominent figures such as Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello have led to immediate criminal charges against her.

“This selective enforcement of justice is deeply concerning and suggests potential political interference,” they stated.

The legal team further revealed that several of the senator’s petitions implicate high-profile individuals and involve grave incidents, including the abduction and attempted murder of a member of her protocol staff.

Although Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is currently out of the country on personal matters, she has officially received notice of the charges. Her legal team confirmed her readiness to return and appear in court once a date is fixed.

“She remains fully committed to due process,” the statement affirmed, adding that the senator appreciates the public’s support amid what they termed “a highly questionable legal proceeding.”

In conclusion, the legal team called for a thorough and unbiased investigation into all pending petitions and urged the government to uphold justice without favoritism or political bias.
