The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

According to the statistical breakdown released on Monday, a total of 1,955,069 candidates sat for the 2025 UTME. Of this number, only 420,415 scored above 200, representing just over 21% of the total candidates.

Further analysis shows that 7,658 candidates scored between 300 and 319, while only 4,756 scored above 320.

In a statement accompanying the results, JAMB also disclosed that 40,247 underage candidates were granted special permission to participate in the examination to showcase their exceptional abilities. However, just 467 of them — approximately 1.16% — met the threshold score considered indicative of exceptional performance. JAMB noted that the evaluation of these candidates will continue across three additional assessment stages.
