The Kano State Police Command on Monday rescued a 19-year-old man who attempted to take his own life by climbing a billboard at the popular Ado Bayero Bridge, demanding to see popular TikTok personality Abdul BK.
Identified as Ibrahim Abubakar from Adamawa State, the teenager had scaled the large billboard and threatened to jump unless the influencer appeared in person.
According to a statement released Tuesday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, a rapid response team—comprising police officers and fire service personnel—was immediately dispatched to the scene after a distress call was received.
Negotiators managed to convince the TikToker to come to the scene, and upon sighting him, Abubakar agreed to come down. He was safely rescued, though visibly weak from spending hours without food. He was subsequently taken to the Police Hospital in Bompai for medical attention.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, praised the coordinated efforts of the rescue teams and ordered a full investigation into the incident.
The police warned against such dangerous stunts, reminding the public that attempted suicide is a criminal offence. They also encouraged individuals struggling with emotional or mental health issues to seek help through proper channels rather than resorting to life-threatening actions.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring public safety throughout the state.
