MultiChoice Nigeria has reduced the price of its DStv decoder by 50%, bringing it down from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000 in a bid to attract new customers and counter a decline in subscriptions.

Announcing the development on Tuesday, the company’s CEO, John Ugbe, said the initiative was part of efforts to reward loyal customers and enhance overall value.

“We want our customers to feel valued and have access to quality entertainment every day. The ‘We Got You’ campaign is designed to make premium content more accessible and show that DStv caters to more than just sports fans,” Ugbe explained.

He added that the platform is repositioning itself as a daily entertainment destination, offering a wider variety of content including movies, dramas, children’s shows, and news.

As part of the promotion, subscribers who pay for their current package in full between June 16 and July 31, 2025, will receive a free upgrade to the next higher package.

MultiChoice said the price reduction and bonus upgrade are meant to ease the financial pressure many Nigerians are currently experiencing.

The move follows the company’s loss of about 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025. This drop came after MultiChoice increased the prices of its DStv and GOtv packages three times within a year—in April 2023, November 2023, and again in May 2024.
