Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 32 Artillery Brigade have arrested two individuals suspected of involvement in a kidnapping case in Akunnu Akoko, located in Akoko North-East LGA of Ondo State.

Major Njoka Irabor, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, disclosed that the arrests resulted from actionable intelligence indicating kidnappers were about to receive ransom for a 10-year-old boy abducted three days earlier.

One suspect was caught in the act during the ransom exchange, while another, identified as Mr. Abubakar (also known as Maude), was detained the following day for allegedly providing information to the kidnappers.

The statement explained, “On June 3, troops operating under Operation Fast Strike Squad at Forward Operating Base Auga intercepted a ransom delivery at Sabon Hanya on Aiyere-Kabba Road, Ondo State. The victim was rescued, and one suspect, who sustained injuries during the operation, was apprehended. On June 4, a subsequent operation led to the arrest of a suspected informant who had been monitoring military troop movements.”

Both suspects are currently in custody and will be handed over to the appropriate security authorities for prosecution.

Brigadier-General Justin Ifeanyi, Commander of the 32 Brigade, called on residents to keep providing credible intelligence to support ongoing military efforts to secure the region.
