Reality TV star and influencer Natasha Akide, known as Tacha, has sparked widespread online debate by revealing that a significant number of Nigerians living in the UK are facing financial difficulties, challenging the popular notion that everyone abroad is wealthy.
In a viral video, the former Big Brother Naija contestant, now based in the UK, addressed what she described as an “inferiority complex” among Nigerians at home who assume life overseas is always prosperous.
Tacha stated, “To those in Nigeria who constantly feel inferior, thinking everyone abroad is rich most people here are actually broke. The most financially strained people I’ve met are right here in the UK. Everyone is just trying to make ends meet. It’s expensive.”
She highlighted the high cost of living as a major obstacle for immigrants, painting a reality far removed from the idealized image many hold.
“Believe me when I say life here is far from rosy. Many people in Nigeria have a better living standard than most of us here,” she added.
Tacha advised Nigerians planning to relocate to the UK to be mindful of the financial challenges they might face.
“If you want to move, go for it, but don’t think it’s all smooth sailing. You could easily spend 300,000 Naira on a taxi in a single day or 1 million on a car within a week, unless you rely on the train. Be sure to weigh your decision carefully.”
