Nigerian Army troops, operating alongside hybrid forces and guided by intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS), have killed at least 45 bandits during a counterattack in Iburu village, located in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

Security insiders reported that the operation took place on Friday evening following a DSS alert that armed terrorists on motorcycles were heading towards Iburu and surrounding communities to launch an assault.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, soldiers engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle, successfully neutralising no fewer than 45 of them. Eyewitnesses in the village reportedly counted over 40 bodies of the attackers, with several motorcycles also destroyed during the confrontation.

However, the operation was not without casualties on the part of the security forces. Two members of the hybrid unit lost their lives, while four others sustained serious gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment at a public hospital in the state capital.
