The Federal Government has officially fixed the minimum age for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions at 16 years.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, on Tuesday during the opening session of the ongoing Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja.
Dr. Alausa emphasized that the 16-year benchmark is final and non-negotiable. He further warned that any admissions carried out outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) would be deemed illegal, and those responsible would face legal consequences.
He cautioned heads of institutions against engaging in admission malpractice, stating that anyone found guilty would be prosecuted accordingly.
