The Kaduna State Police Command has prohibited a planned birthday rally organized by supporters of former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, citing security concerns.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, authorities said they received credible intelligence indicating that the event though intended as a peaceful show of support could be hijacked by criminal elements aiming to incite violence and disrupt public order.

The police stressed that political rallies and public gatherings remain banned in the state until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially kicks off political activities.

Additionally, the Command noted that multiple political parties are scheduled to hold their primaries on the same date as the proposed rally.

These events have already been approved following proper notifications to law enforcement. Officials fear the overlapping activities could escalate tensions and lead to possible clashes or disorder.

“In light of these developments, the Command strongly advises the organisers to suspend the planned rally,” the statement read. “Supporters who wish to celebrate Mr. Obi should do so in a manner that is safe and does not disturb public peace.”

The police warned that any group or individual found violating this directive would face legal consequences.

The Command reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining law and order and urged the public to cooperate fully with security agencies to ensure peace across the state.
