President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Chinedu Mmom as the Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology, Ogoni, located in Rivers State.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Also appointed is Professor Don Mon Baridam, who will serve as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. Baridam is a seasoned academic and professor of management with expertise in organisational behaviour. He previously served at the University of Port Harcourt.
The president also named other members of the university’s governing council, representing the six geopolitical zones. They include:
Emmanuel Onoja (North-Central)
Hamid Adekunle (South-West)
Chima Oji (South-East)
Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North-West)
Mpigi Monday Douglas (South-South) – appointed as Registrar
Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie (North-Central) – appointed as Bursar
Saghanen Ntogo (South-South) – appointed as Librarian
Professor Mmom, who now leads the university as Vice-Chancellor, previously headed the Department of Geography and Environmental Management at the University of Port Harcourt. He also served as Rivers State Commissioner for Education.
The appointments follow President Tinubu’s signing of the bill establishing the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Ogoni, in February 2025. The president described the university as a key step towards promoting environmental justice and broadening access to quality education in the Niger Delta region.
