President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Friday, received a delegation of former governors who were part of the 1999 set that came into office at the dawn of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic.

The meeting took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with the former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, leading the delegation.

Although details of the closed-door meeting were not immediately disclosed, it is believed to be part of President Tinubu’s broader consultation efforts with influential political stakeholders across the country.

The visit was confirmed by the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The class of 1999 governors is historically significant, having played pivotal roles in Nigeria’s democratic transition and political evolution following decades of military rule. President Tinubu himself served as Governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007.
