At the 2025 policy meeting convened by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), vice-chancellors of Nigerian universities agreed on a minimum UTME score of 150 for university admissions.

This new benchmark means no university may admit students who score below 150 in this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Despite this national minimum, several top-tier institutions including the University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, and Pan-Atlantic University have set their own cut-off marks at 200.

In contrast, some newer private universities proposed a lower threshold of 120, although JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, recommended a standard minimum of 160.
